Reliance Jio plans to release affordable 4G and 5G Jio smartphones for Android soon. While the company will initially release 4G Jio smartphones, the goal is to have low-cost 5G Jio phones at some point. A new report from PTI now claims that the price of the Jio 5G phone in India will start at less than Rs 5,000 and will gradually be reduced from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000, according to a company official. Jio targets 20 to 30 crore of 2G mobile phone users in order to make India “2G-mukt Bharat”.
“Jio wants to bring the device for less than Rs 5,000. When we increase sales, their price can be between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000,” a company official told PTI. This would improve the rate dramatically. 5G Smartphone Adoption in India At present, 5G phones cost over Rs 25,000.
The launch date of the Jio 5G phone is currently unknown, but we expect to see it sometime in 2021. A recent report from Bloomberg claimed that Jio was working on launching Rs 4,000 Android phones in India in December. . These phones are only expected to support 4G and the company aims to manufacture up to 200 million smartphones over the next two years.
Jio has partnered with Google to release low-cost smartphones with a new optimized version of Android OS after the latter invested Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.1% stake in Jio platforms in July. Jio is working on his own 5G network equipment and has asked the Telecommunications Department to allocate spectrum for testing.
