The hugely popular low-cost Jio phone is set to relaunch in India after a pandemic-induced production shutdown in 2020. Reliance Jio briefly stopped selling the device due to supply constraints from the pandemic. COVID-19, which led to the Jio phone virtually disappearing from the shelves. However, with the relaunch, the company promoted by Mukesh Ambani looks set to bring the 4G favorite back to the masses. Unfortunately, the price of the Jio phone in India would increase a bit as it is no longer viable for Reliance Industries (RIL) to sell it at Rs 699. Fortunately, the increase will not be too high and the working phone will be retailed at. less than Rs 1,000, according to an ET Telecom report. RIL has also switched to a new vendor called Flex, according to an executive cited in the report.

While RIL has yet to reveal exactly when the Jio phone will be available for purchase, the Jio phone’s relaunch date will be sometime in the first half of 2021. As always, the company will focus on rural areas and communities. small towns where the Jio Phone is an affordable alternative for those on a tight budget.
A previous report told us that Reliance was also planning to launch “Jio Exclusive” smartphones in India, which are essentially rebadged smartphones made by companies such as iTel and Vivo. We could see the Jio Phone making a comeback alongside said phones, although Reliance has yet to officially acknowledge their existence. Some new subscription plans for Jio Phone users are also in the works.
Jio Phone’s relaunch will be followed by the launch of budget Android smartphones (both 4G and 5G) that the company is preparing with Google. These smartphones aim to bring mobile phone users still stuck on 2G devices in the 4G world as well as make Jio’s 5G services popular among the masses. In fact, the price of the Jio 5G phone could be as low as Rs 2,500, according to a report. The Jio 5G network will be launched in the second half of 2021.
