Since Vivo showcased the integrated fingerprint technology at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, there has been a lot of talk about the first real production smartphone that will feature this technology. Vivo obliged us with the X21 and it was recently launched in India also at an attractive price. What is all this phone pack and is it worth your money? We discover.
Vivo X21: Price in India, Offers
The Vivo X21 is currently available through Flipkart for a price of Rs. 35,990. This puts it in direct competition with the OnePlus 6. There are many offers that you can take advantage of when purchasing this smartphone. You can benefit from EMI free of charge from Rs 3,999 per month on all major bank cards. Flipkart also offers exchange offers up to Rs 16,700 on this phone. Apart from that, there are banking offers for example on all Axis Bank cards and all Visa cards, you get an instant 5% discount on the phone.
Vivo X21: design, display
Vivo X21 features a glass-to-metal design with a premium all-glass back and front wrapped in a metal frame. However, its main USP is the under-display fingerprint sensor, which totally eliminates the need for any physical fingerprint sensor and home button on the device. To unlock their devices, Vivo X21 users only need to touch the fingerprint prompt on the display screen and it unlocks in a jiffy.
Up front, it has a 6.28-inch Full HD + Super AMOLED display which is an extra tall 19: 9 panel with a notch at the top. There’s a slight chin up too, but the phone is quite impressive.
Vivo X21: performance, hardware specifications
While the Vivo X21 is technically more expensive than the OnePlus 6, it lags when it comes to raw processing power. Running on a modest Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and Adreno 512 GPU, Vivo X21 comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Vivo X21: operating system, battery
The phone runs Android Oreo 8.1, with Vivo’s FunTouch OS 4.0 skin on top. Powering the device is a 3200mAh battery, which also supports Quick Charge technology.
Vivo X21: Camera Features
The Vivo X21’s main camera has a dual configuration with 12MP and 5MP sensors. There is a 12MP secondary camera on the front for selfies. The camera also has the latest 3D mapping, Face Wake facial recognition, and IR fill light features, making it one of the most advanced facial recognition systems on an Android phone to date. Vivo claims that the AI ââscene recognition feature can detect up to 17 scenes and help users capture the perfect shot every time. As you would expect from a high-end smartphone, the Vivo X21 supports 4K video recording at 30 fps. For selfies, the Vivo X21 is equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor on the front with an f / 2.0 aperture and an AI Face Beauty feature that uses machine learning to enhance selfies and is also capable of recording videos at Full HD 1080p resolution. Besides capturing selfies and videos, the front camera also offers improved facial recognition technology.
Vivo X21: Presentation
The Vivo X21 appears to be a bit overpriced for the specs it offers. For the same price, you can get a OnePlus 6 with a considerably better processor and better features overall. Yes, you miss the in-display fingerprint scanner, but that’s still not enough to make it a better proposition overall. The OnePlus 6 starts for Rs. 34,990 for its base variant with 6 + 64GB of storage and flagship grade specs overall That being said, the Vivo X21 packs some cool features like the fingerprint scanner. Integrated into the screen, a nearly bezel-less display, and an impressive dual camera setup, which makes the X21 a compelling buy, albeit at a price point closer to 30K and not 35K.
